The University of Nigeria (UNN) has suspended one of its lecturers following allegations of sexual misconduct with a married student.

The lecturer, Mfonobong David Udoudom, who is a faculty member in the General Studies Programme (GSP) Unit, has reportedly been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 22, involved Mfonobong David Udoudom allegedly being caught in a compromising position with a married student in his office located at the GSP complex.

The lecturer, who teaches courses in Peace and Conflict Resolution and Nigerian People's and Culture, was reportedly accused of demanding sexual favors from the student in exchange for academic grades.

According to reports, the student promptly informed her husband about the situation, leading to a coordinated effort involving the Dean of Students Affairs and school security to apprehend the lecturer.

The lecturer was allegedly caught red-handed, prompting swift action from the university administration.

Dr. Okwun Omeaku, the Acting Public Relations Officer of UNN, issued a statement on Tuesday, April 23, confirming Udoudom's suspension with immediate effect.

The statement reads;

"The management of the University of Nigeria has suspended Mr (not a Professor) Mfonobong David Udoudom, a lecturer in our General Studies division, who was caught in a video allegedly harassing a female student," the statement read.

"The indefinite suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the University to investigate the incident.

"For the records, the University of Nigeria has a zero tolerance for sexual misconducts involving our staff and students

"UNN is among the few universities in the country that has a Sexual Harassment Policy, which guides the relationship between our staff and students in particular and among our male and female staff

"As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the University Management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel."
